Be alert – leakage of cooking gas can lead
to major fire.
Put off cigarette butts before throwing
– A lit butt can cause fire.
Ensure all fire extinguishers are in place
and all are in working condition.
Keep all fire safety installations in operating
condition – smoke detectors, alarm system & PA system. Check them regularly.
Get rectification required done immediately.
Take excessive care during Diwali. Bursting
of crackers may be fun, but they can turn hazardous. Watch out for bursting
flowerpots and other fireworks.
Care with LPG:
Always keep the gas cylinder in a well-ventilated
room. Do not place the gas cylinder horizontally on the floor
Constantly check for any wear and tear on
the tube and replace the tube once a year.
Light the stove immediately after you have
turned on the gas.
Turn off the regulator knob when you have
finished cooking and during night.
In case you suspect a gas leakage, be sure
not to turn on/off any electrical switches. This could trigger off a fire.
Protect yourself
from fire at Office:
Test your fire alarm system frequently.
Fire doors should be in good operating condition.
Fire extinguishers should be provided adequately
in number and type.
Fire extinguishers should be mounted in
readily accessible locations.
Fire extinguishers should be recharged regularly
and noted on the inspection tag.
Employees should be periodically trained
on the use of extinguishers and fire protection procedures.
In case of a electric fire, you must use
an extinguisher rated for a Class C fire hazard. Other types may actually
conduct electricity with serious consequences to the user.
How to fight
a fire:
While firefighting is generally best left to the professionals, there
are rare occasions when it makes more sense to put a fire out on your own.
It is important to know the kind of fire extinguishers for this purpose.
Class A fire
extinguishers are used for fires involving ordinary combustible
materials such as wood, fabric, paper products, many plastics and rubber.
Class B extinguishers
are used to extinguish burning flammable liquids, gasses, greases and similar
materials.
Class C extinguishersare
used for fires involving live electrical equipment where safety dictates
that extinguishers employ non-conductive agents.
Class D extinguishers
are required to extinguish certain burning metals such as magnesium, titanium,
zirconium, sodium and potassium.
ABC or BC
extinguishers (special
extinguishers) can be used on fires that combine several different
kinds of flammables.
How to use an
extinguisher:
Basically, there are five steps to follow
when using an extinguisher to put out a fire:
1.Pull out the pin.
2.Stand seven to 10 feet from the fire.
3.Aim at the base of the fire.
4.Squeeze the trigger.
5.Spray with a back-and-forth motion
across the fire's base.
